Sure did, but you know what, it didn't shake.

How do you think they got the pistons to synchronize? I see no mechanical linkage, The diagonal rocker on the cutaway model is probably just to move the parts on the model for demonstration purposes. There's no such thing on the actual engine.

gas passage on the picture

Hi Bruno

Looking at the picture shows a large gas passage interconnecting the front and rear volumes of the pistons so it looks as if this provides the synchronization, the gas bulbs are a give away at the ends as well and hint at gas shocks to stop the pistons impacting the ends, note the cup piston on the end complete with compression rings on the model.

Hi All

Just an update to this thread as I still have a research interest in these types of engines, here is a nice example of a modern take on the twin cylinder, quadruple piston, type of engine, these are two stroke engines with a lot of advantages that make very power dense installations possible, they also claim that you can gang engines together via clutches for extra power on demand? a nice feature.

Ecomotors web site http://www.ecomotors.com/ you should see a rather nice animation of the their engine on the landing page

Hi Fedde

We have posted this one before as its another nice engine but with added supercharging via the extra pistons on the end and reed valves

Another update to this thread and to this particular item, the Ecomotors engine has gained some significant backing and investment recently from Bill Gates

http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2010/ ... ill-gates/ and yes I know its a bike blog buts one of my favorites ;-)

I noticed also that EADS are trying out a few of their engines in a diesel electric hybrid helicopter experiment, that was reported a little while ago in Flight magazine

Hi Mr.B

Thanks for posting that link, I had not seen this company before, a pleasure to see some one developing a radial engine configuration, the test bench video looks good too.
