FLAME TUBE!

Post by Rossco » Mon Mar 05, 2007 5:44 am

Thanyou very much Horace, a big compliment coming from you!
I have sent you an email to the address listed here.

Further news! I have got the f..... flame tube.
I cheated a lot, so its not as accurate as i would like, although its the only way that i can get it to work without big gaps.

Pics to come as soon as i finish the other holes off.

Holy! that took some juice. Glad ive boosted my mem right up and a new graphics card, still, i dont think that i can do the two of these flame holders in the same shot! Will have to back of on the complexity here a bit.

Heres the dredded flame holder in all its glory! It would be less painfull, and take less time building the thing in steel and taking a picture of it i think!

New software

Post by Rossco » Wed Mar 07, 2007 11:27 pm

Hey,

Ok, this project has been on hold since the last post as i am out of modeling power with current software.
Its taking too much time to work around the limitations of the program which only leave me with unwanted compemises in the end.

I have taken a huge leap, and am in the process of learning a much more complex system. The problem now is what do i do with this project?
I dont think that i can continue it in the new software for a good while, as i should start modeling along the lines of a shoe box, and then go for a brick to put in it (if i can manage the holes).
It wont really take that long, although too steep a learning curve and i might fall over backwards.
I have been speaking to some of the turbine guy's and the KJ-66 might not have been the best option. I have a list of a lot of other micro's coming, so i will toss up whether to continue, and in what medium, when i see them and speak to the GT guys some more.

Im busting to get into the sheet metal capabilities of this one, so i might have a go at the rotten flame tube and post it up here for demo.

Craig, very cool! How much info do you have on water jet cutting? (i know, i could look it up, but i want a first hand experiance view)
Ill post up some unfolded sheet layouts for your comments, tricks of the trade are very important in the design stage, and the best ones you cant just read out of a book.

CD hmmmm. we'll see.
ooo i can export all to formated PDF now too! Directly! All sorted with links to individual parts and all.

Man i have some work to do!

Hard to use new software, could it be ProEngineer? I dabbled in autocad and solidworks but one day had to use ProE, took 1/2 an hour to draw a cirlce! To be fair for assemblies over 5k parts its the best...

If I'm not mistaken the diffuser without the big vanes is the "best" one for the turbocharger compressor. The one with the big vanes is in my book Gas Turbine Engines for Model Aircraft by Kurt Shreckling. It is easy to build and works but, to the best of my and Google's knowledge the other one is more effective with the compressor selected.

Someone out there has a better answer about why that is
Sailing Student- How do I know if my life jacket is tight enough?
Me- Can you breathe?
Sailing Student- Yes
Me- Then its too loose!

Right, getting a handle on this new gear.

Here is a shot of the compressor.
Options! choices! The sky is now the limit! (Well, actualy, im putting much more than the sky in there, dont know if you can see the reflections in this size?)
Floor reflection is a bit harsh tho isnt it?
And doesnt this shape make a funny shadow!

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful!

Can you perhaps post the last picture in a larger format so I can use it as background on my laptop?

Hey,

That one is nothing compared to what im doing now!
There is just more and more around every corner of this program!

I will do up a poster of turbine parts for you, maybe in a glass case? (im into working refraction and advanced rendering atm)

What size would you, or anyone else interested, like? To be fair on the site, if you want them really big, i will send them direct and just put up a sample size here.
If you have any prefered rendering or modeling ideas, please post them to my other thread ( http://www.pulse-jets.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=4133 ), or supplied email. I will be doing a selection for practice, so any of use that go to a good home will be a bonus. I like this idea of doing some posters to get my stuff out there.
If you really want something in particular done, engine related or not, send me some info, any photo's, drawings and dimensions you have.

Rossco

(my daughter wants to type/post something...)

hello everyone,
I like jet engines too.

Flame tube... again

Post by Rossco » Wed Mar 21, 2007 1:13 am

Glop, that is very nice in itself. If you would like me to attemt some photorealistic rendering on that i would be happy to work on it with you.
Is there something wrong with your compressor direction, or am i missing something with the diffuser? and look which way your turbine is turning it!
Where did you get the info for "building" that compressor?

MANOLO,

Thankyou for your comments.

I do not understand.

I would like your input because you have made one of these engines.

And now, the power is mine! I still feel it running through my veins.
Bend and unbend.

Stupidly high rendering settings on an otherwise low quality build, lighting and suroundings setup.
This took half an hour to render, i will go a bit easier on turning all those knobs up and down from now on.
