Turbcraft P-38B: Engine or Paperweight?

Hi All;
There seem to be a number of sites selling plans for the
Turbocraft P-38 axial turbojet. Given the near-universal inability
to get their U-22 turbojet to work, is this one any better? I find
the claims of 20 lbs thrust to be highly suspicious. Is this another
case of a elaborate paperweight?

Join the DIYGT forum at Yahoo groups... And spend a few weeks reading thru the +30k posts... =) Or get Your self a copy of Thomas Kamps books....

GTÂ´s are quite simple to get to work... But they need a lot of tweaking to get them to work optimum...

Hi, i have the U22 plans somewhere, it's a waste of time as i can see.
but if you are really that desperate to see the plans i'll see if i can find them

they might give someone some ideas towards building an axial engine

Got the plans for the U-22?

Both never ran correct? Looking at the nice round numbers for the blade angles I'd assume so...

I once made a small (3 in diameter) axial, it ran for 2 or 3 hrs before I started losing blades...Next time I use stainless!

i do the plans somewhere although they are not scanned into my computer, i'll see if i can find them today and see what i can do

found the plans for the U22, it's amazing what you find in the shed when you haven't been in there for ages, i also found some phoenix 30.3 plans, i think there are 3 copies.

regards the U22 plans, i have a A1 sheet with all the drawings on, i have taken photos of each individual part so there will be quite a lot of pics that i'll be posting on here, i need to resize them all first so bare with me.

Hi;
The P-38 plans are great, and I already see modifications that could
be made. A smoother flowpath, bigger rotors to reduce rpms, more
blades on the rotors and stators and film cooled combustor tubes (I
saw those on Free Patents Online. Also more robust bearings so the
engine could be run for extended periods.

I wrote some .html to aid in viewing the jpg's paulj provided. It can
be downloaded here.

To use, unzip this file into the same directory the .jpg's were.

It works in Netscape, Opera and Firefox 2. I don't know about IE,
because I don't use it.
