importance of compressor bellmouth DP

Post by ibanez » Mon Jul 31, 2006 8:55 pm

can someone explain the significance of the compressor bellmouth differential pressure and why is it measured?

I know the inlet DP is measured to give an indication of the cleanliness of the inlet filters

Hi Ibanez

The static pressure difference between inside the bellmouth throat and static ambient pressure will give an indication of the mass flow as the total pressure will remain the same , the static drop converts to a dynamic component (velocity) and along with the flow area will give mass flow of the less dense inlet air .
Mass flow = speed X density X area

Hope this helps :-))

Cheers
John
