so i'm attempting to homebuild a small turbine, and today i got the front intake off the turbocharger that the compressor is coming from (KKK K03 turbocharger, 50mm compressor).
it looks as tho the compressor was rubbing against the housing......certain areas of the fins look slightly ground down. however, the housing doesn't show any signs of wear at all.
could this be due to dust and dirt coming into the intake?
and would you still use a compressor that shows small signs of wear? i'm not gonna be putting it in a model or anything, all i want it to do really is idle, so reliability isn't a concern.
i just doubt it will work as effeictly as it was designed, would you still use it?

Post pictures of the compressor. With out them it´s really hard to tell...
But as a rule on the state of the parts in the turbo. If it looks bad then throw thr turbo in the wastebin or send it to a repair shop.

there was probably some play in the shaft and it rubbed a little.

If there is play in the shaft so either the compressor- or turbine-wheels rub against the housings, then scrap the turbo and buy a better one or get it rebuildt!
