re: Johanssons Jet-Cart
Maybe this is useful.
resonant combustor
if you ad a length of pipe with one dead end to your combustion chamber, it will probably resonate, this link will give a start on length verses frequency.

The GT-PC combination sounds like a very interesting experiment! That besides earlier PC-fan combination attempts.
Cool idea, Anders!

re: Johanssons Jet-Cart
Thanks! I´ve started a new thread in the Valveless forum since the discussion belongs there more than here...
Leo: Nice project you´ve got there, but I guess that simply adding extra length to the existing combustor would not be very practical in this case. I did cut a few corners when I designed the gocart combustor two years ago, so no part of it will be used in the PC project. Besides getting it to work I am aiming to make it as small and neat as possible so the design can more easily be adapted to something of practical use. (if anything involving homemade turbines can be called practical...)

These are good objectives! If you should carry out this project, and succeed, I think that there are peopleJohansson wrote: Besides getting it to work I am aiming to make it as small and neat as possible

who would want to see the results. All of the previous examples that I have read about were restricted to
the laboratories in which they were tested; a portable pulsed combustor/turbine demo unit may be a first.
Cheers,
M.

I noticed that some posts have disappeared in the thread, and it seems like Ben took his posts with him when he left the forum.
It sure looks a bit strange when I have answered a question that doesen´t exist... ;-)

Yeah, it was distructive for sure.

Re: Johanssons Jet-Cart
You get sort of a love/hate relationship to a jetcart, you love the idea of having one in your garage at the same time as you hate how much space it is using up...
It seems as there won´t be a race this summer, not a word about any new location or date in over a month. That has got me thinking about rebuilding the cart for diesel fuel and making a power turbine for it instead of the afterburner, that way I can take it for a spin around the block without getting ruined by the fuel cost and it will be a great learning tool for making a more serious PT for the jet bike once I get my thumbs out of my behind and get that one working as a gas producer.
John has provided much food for thought with his cart, for simplicity I won´t be using a gearbox but if I can get decent torque from a home made PT at 10-15.000 rpm it should give it quite a push anyway.

Re: Johanssons Jet-Cart
LOL.......you'll get plenty of power from a homemade freepower )
The homemade freepower on my PJ turboprop went to 20,000 rpm , about the rpm limit for racing kart chain , so you'll have no problems getting what you want .
If you need some design help ...............I'm here )
Cheers

Re: Johanssons Jet-Cart
Sounds great! I´ll have to wait a while longer in case the race is going to happen after all, until then I can make a pure jet nozzle for it and record some numbers. I need to know the jet pipe pressure, nozzle area and thrust at max EGT, right?
It it possible to collect these values while running it on propane, and then use them after I have rebuilt it for diesel fuel? That way I have something to do while waiting for news about the race.

Re: Johanssons Jet-Cart
Yep, numbers should be the same with propane or diesel
