VSTOL scale model

His approach is quite simple and effective. I've seen other attemps for example the picture shown below, but it seems that the status is still under development.

Nicely Put. That's some nice engine there....*wishes he had one to base a jetpack on*

Yes, Horace, that fellow's developed a really clean, simple approach to the problem. Exactly the kind of thinking I enjoy seeing in action.

Thanks!

If you want to see it in action it is listed under "autogiro" on this video page:
http://members.chello.nl/r.braam2/video-pagina.htm

It crashed when the engine failed- there's a video of that too

also check out the B-52 because words alone cannot describe how unspeakably awesome it is.

they crashed that one too.

Yes, it's an exciting hobby - especially with several thousands of dollars invested in engines.

Brave scale model enthusiasts, crash one model and build more. I still cannot understand why the B-52 modellers adopted 8 engines configuaration, to me, to run so many engine at a time means unstable design. It's easy to flame out one or two and stall ---> crash

Horace, remember that aircraft don't just automatically crash when an engine fails. If you have enough altitude and a reasonable wing loading, and enough time to react, you can set up a glide and land somewhere. Most planes [especially models, where the wing loading tends to be light], don't just fall out of the sky at engine failure. Of course, it's a little different with a supersonic fighter model or a record speed ship!

I didn't read much detail wrt the crash event, I only saw the crash video and make some speculation. It seems that all model aircrafts eventually crash, it is not an issue of whether or not, it is an issue of when.
