Very cool : oD I want one to power my PSP when I get it, just for coolness factor if nothing else.

Re: Micro Micro Turbine (Fuel Cell Applications)
I agree with your "mirco micro turbine" terminology. Yeah, if jet engine for model airplane could be called micro turbine, this is surely mirco micro turbine.
One million rpm. I am really interested in how he's going to do with the gearbox and alternator which convert mechanical work to electricity.
I am also very curious on what thermal efficiency this kinda turbine could achieve, as we know the rule for efficiency: "the bigger the better."
So many questions in my mind, what kind of bearing will he use ? what about combustor, fuel pump ? ...

I don't know if it answers any of your questions, but there's more information about the project in this paper: http://www.asme.org/igti/resources/arti ... -38866.pdf

It answered virtually all my questions. Many thanks.Xama wrote:I don't know if it answers any of your questions, but there's more information about the project in this paper: http://www.asme.org/igti/resources/arti ... -38866.pdf
They are using the facilities in the semiconductor industry to make tiny turbines. BTW, we have many nice 8" and 12" semiconductor foundries here on this island too. I wonder how much will it cost to order a 8" wafer full of tiny turbines ? :-)
