Pressure jets?
can someone send a link on how they work or are they closely related to another type of jet engine? :?

re: Pressure jets?
oh man, you may have opened a can of worms with that one, Ben.
Some will argue that pressure jets are just as loud, if not louder. And also that there is no steady flow of thrust, that they are pulse combusters just like a normal PJ, and that it is impossible to entrain enough air from the fuel flow to support combustion.

Just Glueys in general, I'm not familiar with any other designs, except for the old boiling gasoline thing.

I see, Ben. I read you wrong the first time.
Viv, please explain. You can't just leave it at that. :)
I was hoping you or Luc would give a better description.

Cool but sounds a bit complicated i think ill go with the valveless pulse jet
but how loud are they exactly and ive heard they consume alot of fuel is that true?

OK, I'll dive into the water here. It is a bit murky, probably cold and could only be a few inches deep, but head first it is.
Luc and Viv have sworn off these discussions, so I’ll take up the gloves and give it a go.
Other than Luc and Viv, I have probably spent more time with the mix of pulse jets and pressure jets of the Gluey than anyone else who frequents the Forum. If someone else feels otherwise, please speak up and contribute your thoughts.

"You crack the fuel valve, hit the spark and they start. It’s that simple. "
That is now true of all valveless motors properly set up. Hi Dave!

Hi Guys,
Just wanted to know why they came off the side with the intake? Won't it work if the intake just enters straight down the top? At least you would get some ram effect.
Would that increase the blow back out the intake?
Maybe the pressure jet would be too long?
Just wondering,
HT

That would be a Lockwood with a funny intake rather than a Logan/Chinese with a funny intake:-)hagent wrote:Hi Guys,

Also it would trash the acoustic relationship of the engine geometry and not work;-(
See Michael A Stram's patent for one arrangement on this theme, but it does suffer from a number of drawbacks.

re: Pressure jets?
i did a little experiment and took a empty and dry 500ml water bottle with the cap on, put a small hole in the side put hairy spray in it, lit it, and belive it or not ....it buzzzed!! well for a second or two then the bottle collaspted, melted pretty flat and now the garage stinks like crap... ooops.. heh anyways next ill try it with 2 tin cans duct taped together. ahh precious duct tape....lol
:D
untill then,

Hi Mike
"That is now true of all valveless motors properly set up."
Based on the amount of compressed air we went through at Burning Grape I would say there is a lot of "properly set up" left to do. Regardless of the amount of hot air flowing, it was a blast and I look forward to doing it all again some day.

Re: re: Pressure jets?
Well it does contain a jet that is under pressure how much purer does it have to be:-)Ben wrote:Hey Dave. Just to again clarify my comments, so that they aren't further misinterpreted, I'm saying that the Gluey is not a pure pressure jet so my comments about pressure jets do not apply. Calling it a pressure jet is a misnomer.

An interesting idea! I will see what I can do:-)Ben wrote:So does my kitchen sink, Viv. Care to give me a thrust test on it?
