Re: see running new type of pressure jet - methanol fuel
Hi Viv
thanks for these patents ! on the first look it seems similar to my engine. but we need no oxygen, and we have only one-stage-injector for example. I will study this very thoroughly.
I attach the old simulation code (pascal as ascii text file) to this post. unfortunately comments are in german
but I will translate this, if you or anyone else is interested. explanation will follow next week (I am on travel next days)
... and you see 1995, where this code was written, TurboPascal was aged, but ok. and we were students and had no money for modern CFD progs...

Pascal's a pretty good language really. Not the hippest, but easy to code.
This might be useful, if the code is findable : http://www.garret.ru/lang.html

I found a nice pascal compiler. Its open source (also found at sourceforge). I am still testing this for compatibility with my old code. But looks good for now...

Hi Zono
Couple of questions occur to me in retrospect,
What is your heat exchanger coil made of?
Do you have a metering nozzle between your liquid fuel pump and the heat exchanger coil input? running it sounded like it was surging due to the coil flooding?
Your picture of a running engine looks to be running cool? digital cameras normally look brighter (yellow) than they are due to CCD sensitivity to IR but yours is dark red?

Hi Viv, here the answers:
Couple of questions occur to me in retrospect,
What is your heat exchanger coil made of?
stainless steel. hard to bend without crack!!!!
Do you have a metering nozzle between your liquid fuel pump and the heat exchanger coil input? running it sounded like it was surging due to the coil flooding?
yes, its a metering nozzle we used 1995, but I havent yet. thats the reason why sounds like surging. pump fills coil - flash vaporizing the fuel - steam pressure too high for pump - steam runs out the injector nozzle - pressure low - start from beginning (pump fills coil....). but with our flow control nozzle it was a smooth rocket whoosh and fizz...

thats right! in 1995 we had a SLR with diapositive film . I scanned some of the old images. the daylight photos are from 2008 with CCD digicam.
this daylight shown "i-jet type 3" has further insulated shell to be capable for RC-models.
next time I can add some old images from 1995. hope I find some more...

Re: see running new type of pressure jet - methanol fuel
tests with "free pascal compiler" were successful. so next time i will send customized code for thermo jet dimensioning
PS: is "injector thermo ramjet" a accurate phrase for this jet engine?

Re: see running new type of pressure jet - methanol fuel
Fascinating. Was it pure methanol, or did it have water or nitromethane in it?
Re: see running new type of pressure jet - methanol fuel
wonder if dimethyl-ether would work?
Re: see running new type of pressure jet - methanol fuel
pure methanol, thats right. it works fine. it has almost a perfect caloric value (heating value). it is the best compromise between vapor-jet impulse and combustion temperature. dimethyl-ether will work also, but more heat and less vapor-jet impulse. best should be methanol with a bit water added (but not calculated yet)

A research paper with similar code based on gas dynamic theory:zono wrote:Hi Viv

SUBSONIC PERFORMANCE POTENTIAL OF RAMJETS AND EJECTOR RAMJETS
The ejector ramjet discussed above use propane for fuel and add excessive rich fuel for increasing ejector primary momentum.
Dimensions are intake area A0/A3=0.1825, exit area A5/A3=0.55
What's your engine size?

Re: old images from 90's
The 25N engine seems to have benefited from small inlet area / good matching with injector.zono wrote:hi all, see our trials from early 90's
But why you choose large combustor diameter and length, for gas dynamic purpose, stable combustion, or more surface of heat exchange?
Older engines have problem of combustion occur in diffuser, did the 25N engine prevented that problem?
Re: see running new type of pressure jet - methanol fuel
Dear kenshin,
sorry, I didnt recognise your interesting posts, thank you very much!
to your questions: yes , large diameter and combustion chamber length for stable combustion, and no, we had never trouble with combustion in diffuser, because the methanol vapor jet has enough momentum to supress combustion in the diffuser (high velocity, larger than maximum combustion velocity)
