I recently read an article in the September issue of Air and Space at work about the BD-5. One time the pilot experienced low oil pressure and had to land on a highway and coasted down an off-ramp into a gas station running over those rubber hoses that went ding-ding when a car rolls over them and came to a stop, back in the days when you didn't have to pump your own gas. ha
The Bond film decided to use this true story in the film, sort of a tongue-in-cheek humor, I guess a perfect match for the film's genre. The pilot even saved the newspaper article about the event to prove that it was true.
PS I had to type this paragraph twice now, (the first write-up was better), I lost power and am under a tornado warning from hurricane Gustav that is about to hit Louisiana, the center of the hurricane about 200 miles west of me. hahttp://www.airspacemag.com/issue/Aug-Sept_2008.html
