New guy, project help!

Post by greatlaker » Sun Jan 02, 2011 4:02 pm

Hi all, great site!

Background - I restore/rebuild outboard motors in my spare time and have a bit of mechanical backround...nothing really serious. Don't have much more than the basic garage tools for the above hobby, etc. I enjoy tinkering and thought it would be fun to build jet engine...recently read an article on the idea of using small butane powered turbojets to run a laptop. While I don't intend to run a laptop, I thought it would be cool to do something micro like that. I really want to make a little "tabletop" demonstrator jet, possibly a small ram jet powered by a small electric motor with fan or compressed air and fueled with butane. I have seen some examples around, which people reviewing them basically called the examples bunsen burners or blow torches. My box of spare parts include old airbrush items, valves, mini piston compressor, small butane torches, brass tubing, micro battery operated motors, etc. Not big into the idea of a pulse jet, so I'd like to try something different.

So I'd like to see if any of you have suggestions or ideas I could try. Thanks!
