I've been a pulse jet fan for too many years to mention and now I'm here to share.
I've worked in the nuclear industry where "no moving parts" is seen a a design nirvana, Thus, there are a bunch of technologies that could be used for valveless (and the other) pulse-jet design. Just to whet your appetite look at (http://www.nuvisioneng.com/Portals/0/Pr ... XDIODE.pdf ) and think of it as a crude valve, or a more cunning version of Telsa's ‘valvular conduit’.
If people get interested I try to find some of my old sketches and scan them in for the forum.

Just to put the vortex diode I mentioned in the previous post; the resistance to flow in the "reverse" direction" for a typical simple design about 12 times that in the forward direction.
