Hi Chook
Are you sure that you propane tank holds 8kg of propane? Because we have the same tank size and it holds 4kg of propane and 4kg is the tank's weight itself. So the total weight comes out to be 8kg including the weight of gas tank and propane.
How much speed do you get out with that engine?

Back again!!!!
No my gas cylinder "tare" (empty weight) is 8.75 kgs empty and takes 8.5 kgs of gas to fill.
It stands a total height of 450mm and is 1050mm distance around the middle.
The measurements are.............
My nozzles radial holes, are situated exactly 15mm from the intake into the transition cone (which is total 40mm long from the intake tube to the combustion chamber)
The best speed is only 64.3 kmh on hard packed salt.
Although this was not in a straight line.
It was just a crowd pleaser run and I kept close so it could be filmed.
When I get more time I really wan't to get it running on petrol/methanol.
I just need to know what size jetting I will need for the petrol?

Well best of luck Chook for running your engine on liquid fuel......
Found some signs of life!!!!
It generated the sounds of life for about 1 second.
after that my little 4.5Kg tank couldn't generate enough pressure
Is there any minimum propane tank capacity ideal for starting the engine?

Re: Lockwood Pulse Jet won't sustain
Awwww you are nearly there!!!!
If you have to continually hold the air in it to run/start it means that you have too much gas flow. As soon as it starts and you pull the air away, it will quit as it's mixture is too rich.
On mine if you can hear the injector hissing gas before the ignition, it has way too much gas and requires a LOT of air to get it running.
Just crack the valve on the bottle slightly and slowly increase it, very very slowly. I kept getting too excited when it's rumbling and would always give it too much gas.
It is amazing how low down it will idle, but needs warming up before full power is added or it just flames out.
The last 1/2 of the bottle when mine is running its very tame. Not much thrust at all.
I'm out of town for the next 3 days and hope you have positive news, by the time of my return.

Re: Lockwood Pulse Jet won't sustain
here is the video
but......
there are two things...
1. video camera was not recording the sound correctly, and
2. The engine's sound was itself not very intense.
so, will be making the video again with liquid. I guess the throttle was very low, but still it had a very deep rumble to it

AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very well done. They attract a crowd where ever you run them.
That is indeed just above an idle.
You would not be still smiling and sitting by it without hearing protection at full power.

Hi all!!
Sorry for a late reply, I was busy with my studies....
Anyways,,,
I have been trying to find a solution to the wiggling injector due to extreme vibrations of the engine. Looking for a solid and firm grip now....
