Re: M500 build log
I found some pump and nozzles. Did you already compute or guess how much fuel it is going to need?

Re: M500 build log
Well let's guess:
M500 = 500 pounds of thrust (hopefully ), TSFC = 2,5 >> 1250 pounds of fuel per hour? Oooops
That's about 10 liters a minute. Pumps can handle that, can your wallet??

Re: M500 build log
10 litres a minute isn't that bad actually. I could use a combo of petrol and oil to cut the costace_fedde wrote:Well let's guess:

number 3. Pics don't get resized by the forum, apparently. right-click the images and hit "view image" to see the whole thing

Re: M500 build log
Yikes! That is some beautiful work. Quite manly motor!
I'll enjoy going back through this thread. Been kind of busy! Was there a debate about centering the intakes in the augmentors?

Hey Mike,
About the intakes: I guess so. I'll have to chop of a "V" shape from all the ejectors to make them fit properly on the recifier, with the intakes blowing down the centre. I'm planning on doing that later today so if you have anything to say about that, like, don't do it, please hurry

Re: M500 build log
I don't know. I think since its not possible to center it and get yourself a nice neat toroidal vortex in there, the next best thing is (let's call it) a "rolling eddy", so I'd say just trim the flare and get the two diameters tangent. This one might have been a candidate for one big augmentor around the whole mess.
I fear that head plate is going to be the first thing to fail. A little bit of doming or coning is in order when it does.

I've been adding reinforcements to the engine (pics comming) and I'll also reinforce the endcap to prevent buckling. The rectifier has been made with 1.5mm steel so I'm taking a chance by not reinforcing it

Re: M500 build log
This will be the ideal situation when it's done. I COULD extend the flares when it's done to make one big one

Re: M500 build log
Cool. When you post the next pics, if you could reduce them to 1024x768 it would be better. Better than huge, anyway. I fear I'll be able to hear this one in Santa Barbara.

All the ejectors finished and mounted to the engine. The pipes are welded to the rectifier only at the front, clamps will hold them at the back.
