New here, first pulsejet in progress

I've had plans for making pulsejet for many years but finally got some time to put something together.
This one is "chinese" type jet but I have no idea if it works or not.. I'll test it next weekend. It is almost finished, it just needs somekind of stand and propane gas lines.

Comb.chamber diameter is 100mm, length about 200mm. Exhaust tube 65mm diam and now 1500mm long, possibly way too long but it can be cutted shorter. I made two intakes out of 30mm tubing, each about 200mm long.


I need to make coned exhaust soon, but i wish it is possible to make it run even a little bit without cone shaped tubes?

Iam new here also, I have been into pulse jets for about 2 weeks and have made a start on some parts.

As soon as I have stainless MIG wire ill be making the actual pulse jet. Iam following the 12lb Chinese plans.

chinese type good choice, but you could have used exhaust dia as 5.2cm and two intake tubes each 2.3cm dia. And you can also reduce the exhaust length from 150cm to 100cm, anyways its your choice.

I built one very similar to yours using two intakes. Would not start, as intakes were too long. After cutting them down and adding extensions to exhaust it works fine now.
Still hard to start, but once it does it runs fine. Found out that the exhaust length has to be at least six times longer than the intake length. I will run it again this weekend adding a thrust augmenter.

Can't wait next weekend... I bought 11kg steel bottle of propane gas and made power supply for spark plug. It is ignition transformer from oil burner (10kV / 15mA). This produces very nice and hot spark, but later I will make it battery powered.. Just to get rid of mains voltage.

You will need air to start it. I piped an copper air line into just in front of one of the intakes. Controlled it with and air valve. I turned on the air a bit, then the spark, then turned the propane on until it lit. Once going, turned the spark off and turned both air and propane up. After that just turned off the air. Almost ran it up to full throttle, but it was getting too loud.
I have not doubt yours will run.

Ok, i did first run and it really did run right away!

But its not quite loud, I can easily be there without ear protection. Im not sure why, maybe my gas line is destricting the power..? I opened up my propane tank to full power but it is just too "quiet".

I also heated my propane tank with heater but the output is still not good. This is my first pulse jet, I think it should be so loud at full power that it really hurts without ear protection

I'll also change my exhaust tube to the coned version.

It's pretty cool that we both built new unknown engines and they both fired up easily! Such a great source of info this place is.

I think I need to make a bigger one.
I'm going to install it on kicksled. My goal is to reach 60-70km/h speed on ice road.. I think at least 50lbs of thrust is required for that.
So maybe thunderchine or similar.. maybe thermalpulse 180 / 70lbs.
