Hey Guys

Post by Krakken » Tue Aug 16, 2011 2:01 pm

Hello people,

My names Ryan and i have been tasked with building a pulsejet by my company. The budget is tiny (£800) and the 5 of us know nothing about welding etc etc.

We are in need of a few things. Ideas on materials, if anyone knows cheap manafacturers..... The list goes on ;D

The most important things are can we use mild steel? Does this have any implications like the amount of time we can run it? etc. Another is does anyone know how to work out the pressures that the combustion chamber is under? We need these calculations for the project, or would the pressures be that small that it won't affect it?

Does anyone here live in the UK and if so have they had experience with manafacturing and does anyone know any good people we could talk to. Another thing is for £800 do you think it is possible.

Any help would be appreciated. This has been such a steep learning curve for us as before the presentation tasking us to create one we had never heard of one before.

Thanks all,
Ryan Smith.

You can use mild steel but it will limit the run time of your engine. Pressure in the cc never goes above 2 bar (with normal pulse-jet engines)

Asuming you have welding equipement and the right tools and the engine won't be huge, you need no more than 20 pounds for even a stainless steel engine.

Thanks, what sort of time would you say it would be able to run for?

Also, we don't have any equipment unfortunately and because we are following designs where most of the tubes are tapered, we have to get it fabricated. Obviously due to a stupid budget we can't because no one will take £500 or less for a job like this. We are getting pretty desperate at the moment really and we are thinking that this isn't going to be possible. None of us have a clue on how to weld nor have the facilities to.

Any suggestions? Known manafacturers in england that would do it for cheap/anyone on this forum from england that could help us out?

Thanks,

Ryan.

all you need is a hammer and a broomstick to bend the pipes and cones yourself. a welding shop should get the pieces welded for you on the cheap. a 1mm stainless steel engine can run stationairy for a dozen or so hours, in a plane almost indefinitely
