I thought PJs were supposed to suck for VTOL applications. What say you forumites?
Is this workable, or just more pie in the sky?

Yeah it will work.
I know a guy who used to lie in a field in Vietnam just so he could experience the sound of untold Huey's taking off.
He said it was an awesomly loud ground shaking experience. The US soldiers thought he was some sort of weird
Kiwi Soldier - so they just stepped over him.Well come to think of it he is a bit "out there'...
I reckon just one of these platforms would drown those hueys completely out....loud? You have no idea!-LOL !!!

sure, it would work but even with that shroud design which should supposedly reduce the noise, it's still going to be eardrum shatteringly loud

Yeah, the loudness is a given but how did they improve the fuel efficiency that much?
Re: Is this workable, or just more pie in the sky?
A good pj engine is actually pretty efficient. especially considering each engine is many times lighter than any turbine engine would be. So vtol applications should be well suited for the pj engine. You know, besides the noise...and the reliabillity isues...

On another note, I saw a couple cutaways for gun silencers the other day and thought to myself Heyyyy, that sorta reminds me of those Tesla valvular conduit designs. Maybe worth a look to see how they focus shockwaves?
