Cave Lake State Park and the White Pine County Tourism and Recreation Board are planning a summer beach party! The second annual Cocktails and Cannons.
My entry was a valveless Lockwood Pulse Jet Powered BathTub June 26 2010.

homemade jet bathtub that was powered by a BBQ propane tank.

The “engine” on the flagship jet-tub was activated by what looked like a four-foot long leaf blower – and off it roared. The crowd went wild.

This conspicuously loud technical marvel had a surprising top speed estimated at somewhere between 4 and 5 miles per hour.

The super-tub’s slow screaming circular saunter around the lake was accompanied by incessant cheering from the fans on shore.

Well done that man! (and your team) that's a superb effort and from reading the article it sounded like a lot of fun too, but you may have some competition now every one knows ;-)

Valveless Pulsejet Engines 1.5
-- a historical review of valveless pulsejet designs –

‘Bruno Ogorelec, wrote’

As one enthusiast has noted, “pulsejets redefine noise”.

Few if any people can be seen flying aircraft powered by jet engines they have built themselves.
This document aims to help change that.
However, it is not a how-to primer. It is an attempt to describe and explain the valveless
pulsejet in principle.
My aim is to inspire, rather than teach. My goal is to demonstrate that jet power is
accessible to everyone in a great variety of simple ways. Should you find the inspiration?
plenty of information on the practical steps towards jet power will be available elsewhere.
by Bruno Ogorelec

Two years ago I read Bruno Ogorelec , article I was hooked from that point on. Starting with a bohanon and Thermojet pulse jet and getting the dominations of combustion chamber, intake and tail pipe right. It seemed there was one I built that didn’t run. How well they ran was another story.
This forum has been a source of inspiration. And with a little help from Bruce Simpson, and the episode form Junk Yards Wars, with the Pulse Jet powered boat. It just seemed right.
Thanks for your comments.

I hope to have some competition in next years event! Maybe even you could show up. Maybe you could talk Mike, into a robotic controlled bathtub entry!

Thanks again

Seems as the above link to; RE: homemade jet bathtub that was powered by a BBQ tank, is down. Here are a few more links.

Hi Doug

I think our Australian members have some experience with jet powered boats we could call on for next years entry (don't be shy guys you know who you are;-) a radio controlled bathtub could be a contender too ;-).

I wonder could we run the exhausts submerged for better thrust (if?) and noise reduction but would that then kill the fish?

Looks like a whole load of fun and a good day out in the country from reading the article

My experience with pulsejet powered boats consists of:

pulsejet powered kayak
Pulsejet powered boat (junkyard wars)

Basically pulsejets are not much good with displacement hulls but if you could get a decent hull up on the plane they'd be great.

Still thinking of making another one with a stepped hull and about 500lbs of thrust.

As usual Bruce,
Your untamed desire for adventure is never a disappointment.
I’ll see you there at next year’s event. Regardless of your entry and with plenty of media coverage it will be front page news. Bring your crew and I promise you will be welcome. I’ll pay for your room and board to boot.
Thanks for your comments

Ok, I think I'm going to have to go to this event next year. Looks like a blast. I was thinking of making a huge putt-putt, but it may be far too quiet a vehicle!

Do come as see Ely Nevada,” it doesn’t matter what your Bathtub Entry is “Just come
Relax and join the fun! The Ely Tour and Recreation board should be paying me for this.
I’ve lived here for six years and haven’t run out of things to do since my retirement.
Great food, Convertible lodging no Wal-Mart, but there’s still plenty to see and do.
Plus “Pulse Jet engine Bathtubs at Cave Lake” is a must see how could it get better?

That could be a first you know Mike, I have never heard of any one doing a large scale putt-putt motor, were the hell would you start is the next question though? would it even scale up?

Yeah, I have a patent around here of one that looks like an outboard motor, but I'd go more basic I think, and try and preserve the original approach. Either one or two bigguns or a big mess of littleuns. How fun would that be?

Here it is, but haven't dissected if it's strictly putt-putt. Makes me wonder if you can shape the bottom of the boat so that bubbles do the work. Kinda like a scramjet if you squint your eyes.

How fun would that be! There’s your next project Mike. A Putt-Putt.
Better plan your next year’s weekend vacation now. It's all for the sake of pulse Jets.
Hell’ You, Me, Viv, Bruce and anyone else who wants to join the team. How could anything go wrong.

I have seen somewhere ( it was on my old computer before it gave up the ghost) - a diagram
showing an outboard motor that was made from a valved pulse jet. I have know idea if it worked
or not.
How about a putt putt motor heated by a pulse jet?
That way Mike you get the putt putt AND the noise...heh !
