Just curious, what kind of welder do you use? From the pics it doesen´t look like a mag-weld or a tig-weld, perhaps stick welding?

Not totally sure I agree here. I'm not trying to stir up trouble--but it looks as though your welds are not penetrating the base metal by very much. For max strength they SHOULD.

Have you tried making a weld sample and then cutting through it to try and judge the extent of the weld penetration? This is the only realistic way to determine your results.

OTOH the consistent bead quality indicates your increasing skill and experience. Keep it up!!

I should say in his defense that he was having terrible trouble with a gas regulator and some other problems with his MIG, that said he is a long way from were he was only a few weeks ago

Hey Hinote,

The penetration that I get with my mig weld is good enough. this is the lowest setting. any higher and I would blast through the steel or leave weld beads on the inside - not good. If I look on the inside of the weld seem, I can just about see tiny lumps forming here and there so if the steel is 1mm thick then my penetration is about .8/ .9mm wich is more then good enough. It's not like there are massive pressures to be contained in a pulse-jet.

Try using a higher amp setting/low thread feed and weld the seams in small sections, I made the experimental insertion pipe for my T2 from 1mm sheet and welded it with a 160A ESAB mag-welder that way without problems.

If you weld for one second, rest for two and then weld one again (and so on...) the metal won´t heat up enough to melt and you will get a nice seam without the look of bird spillings to it.
