Jam Jar Reynst doing it's thing until it breaks.
We had heaps of unbroken jam jars at one stage...not
anymore!!!
I stood it in a bowl of water to cool it down.
Watch out for the small orange flame..thats the first small crack...
followed by the big orange flame of destruction( Duh! )

I think it was Steve that accomplished huge long runs by putting a little aluminum tin in the bottom to hold the fuel. The jars mainly break because the base is cooled by contact with fuel, while the glass above thermally grows till it can't handle the stress.

I'll admit my total ignorance to jam jars, but couldn't you cool the jar walls so that you don't have the huge thermal difference? Maybe put it in a outer container that had enough glycol in it to come up the walls of the jam jar? (glycol used because it has the same refractive index as glass, so it'd be invisible)
