Yeah, that's an option James. The meg is fairly round, so with enough compression I may get a seal. But I may spend more time making all the securing stuff than just throwing on the 2" tail (it's now a whopping 2.65"), then go to 1.75", and lastly 1.5". I have all of these tubing sizes and it's quick to change out, though requires a trip home for the welding.

All in all, fun fun fun. I'd rather be screwing around with this than almost anything else!

Oh, and M.: I know, I know, it was a silly tail diameter. I just wanted to try a big honker tail for shits and grins. I am going to predict that 1.5" is where I end up, and that 1.75 od will run, but not well.

I tried the 2" tail pipe with no success on starting. It was rainy and cold, so I'm not going to bump down the tail dia until I can give it a try on a clear day. Looks like clear weather tomorrow.
The other thing I wanted to try is to jam a 1" pipe down there (so it's like it's 3 lb configuration) and once started, yank it out and let the expansion take over, if it will.
Here's a photo of the 2" tail.

Pocky Locky, 35 stitches later...

Post by Irvine.J » Sun Dec 23, 2007 8:55 am

Mike, your pocky locky is nearly finished, though i'm out injured in case of tendon damage and am not allowed to move it. Still, it may be the pain killers, but god damn she is gonna run :-P

7.5cm from the u bend to the expansion start looked pretty close on nudis for the end point of velocity and massflow gains. The cone expands to 46mm over 165mm, then an 80mm straight section. If it runs I want beer. :P unfortunately it like 2 weeks away, or i can mail it to you. The engine really is the DNA fund this time. Peace out.

The cc plate i was grinding with the power drill spooled up... whilst i was holding it, the plate wasn't straight so it cut wide...never doing that again. Not to worry though, the pockey lockey will make it all worth while. How am i gonna flare this thing...

Damn you really messed yourself up good this time! Hope you heal up quickly. You are lucky it didnt totally sever them. Try not to ever diretly hold onto anything. When things like that catch on the grinder bits they will slice right through the thickest leather gloves like butter.

These are quite nice:

Talking like a pirate does not qualify as experience, this should be common sense, as pirates have little real life experience in anything other than smelling bad, and contracting venereal diseases

James! Sorry, dude! I put dna on every motor myself. The last effort had no blood until the blisters peeled a few days later. ("Holy crap!, that u-bend is still really hot!")

how thick is that head plate? I usually use a thick stainless washer for a 1" bolt.
There's also a small flare at the inner end of the intake.

What's the fueling going to be? I don't know how this is going to behave with some other fuel delivery, but you know what you're doing in that regard.

Too bad you can't work on it. Get better!

Fellas i just wanted to say thx for tour kind words :-) merry xmas all.

Mike i'll do that liitle flare if i can work out a hand substitute, i thought one of those brass 360* spray injectors would be nice to try first up, if it goes well i'll send one over :) Never done much with linear intakes so i'm looking forward to this one.

Blood and Fire

Post by larry cottrill » Wed Dec 26, 2007 6:11 pm

James, just got back on line (i.e. back at my day job) and saw this. Man, that is rough! Take it easy on that and get it good and mended before you try to use it again for anything "serious".

I haven't really gotten hurt on engines so far - probably means I don't build enough. In my younger days of building U-control flying models, I used to say I never built one that didn't "have some blood in it".

Take care, my friend!

Sorry mike didnt want to start a thread on this, but your opckey lockey i'll mail to you to get it finished, i'll weld up what i can in a week or two then send it over...

Ok guys,
I spent christmas in surgery, i cut both major tendons to the index and middle finger completely, along with the nerves.
they repaired the tendons and have to be very careful for 6 weeks, then it 2 or so months with the brace on 50% of the time and cant do anything, as for feeling returning, they dont know. Its extremely painful, and will be for some time, i cant really do anything, even studying is hard with the painkillers, and it constantly throbbs.
Word to the wise, never hold a workpiece, regardless of what your doing. I need sleep, peace out.
