Yet another chinese valveless
Heres another chinese valveless....
The combustion chamber and first part of the tailpipe were actually from a little 2" tailpipe valved engine I was making, then after making the valve plate and the retainer I thought "WTF am I making a valved engine? I hate valved engines." Im still trying to figure out what to do with the plate and retainer. I am thinking it will make a nice cup coaster.
The combustion chamber works perfectly, when combined with the correct intake geometry it simply reduces the dead air spaces in the combustion chamber that you would normally find on a chinese valveless so there is no loss in performance from having a slightly shorter combustion chamber.
It runs great, the sound quality is super smooth. Some engines make a really horrible noise but this is quite plesant from 30' away without ear muffs. It also seems to not put out a whole lot of sound for the thrust, though it might just be from the smooth noise tricking my ears.
The engine comes in at a light 6.5 pounds, with the stand adding another 2. The stands made so that you pop the engine down into the C shaped support bracket, and slide it forward so the tailpipe forms a tight fit. The engine cant move any farther forward but it can expand rearward. With the chinese style there isnt a lot of thermal expansion due to the massive cooling the intake provides.
Total length is 60ish inches or so.
Ill get some running pics and vid up soon.

Nice build, as usual. Isn't it fascinating how some motors are just out to hurt your ears, and some are so well behaved?

Hello Eric --
Sweet! I like the stand - both in concept and execution. What is the combustor ID, if you do not mind my asking?
Please post video! =)
Cheers,
M.

Do you just have a eye for lines or is it coming from the calculations? Your engines, all look like a peace of art!!!

Thanks everyone.
Jim,
This engine was basically designed around the tailpipe I already had, but just like fighter jets, the pulsejets that look cool usually work well ;)
A few people I know want me to make stainless engines, and only run them for a few seconds so that the entire engine changes to a bunch of wild colors so that they can buy them as modern art.

Very nice one, Eric!
Do you have thrust, combustor ID, and OAL measurements at hand? Would be cool. Your decision, of course.

I like those colors. I found this company that uses color/hues as a selling point too.

If I ever get around to building a quartz pulsejet tube, I wonder if I could tint it in some nice artistic way. There are some clear old bottles in a display case at the library from long ago found around here on an island, they have taken on a light rainbow coloring too over time I guess.

And here is some beginner that dabbles in titanium color. ha

CC / TP Diameter: 4"
Length: A fraction of an inch under 60"
From the demo run I estimate the thrust is 15+ lbs with the straight tube injector which would be consistent with the other members of the chinese family.
Im almost out of propane, I think I will do a quick run today, get some video, then get the tanks filled up again.
Plating glass with the golden titanium nitride looking material, like on the F22's to reflect radar, would make an intersting glass engine.
Walmart has some interesting large glass vases that I have been tempted to try out, but they are just cheap glass that would crack in .001 second.

Forgive me this, for straying off topic a bit, but when I read about beer, it was funny to me. Actually, the whole read is entertaining, he's got a kind of innocence with the English language, I found his writing style sincere if a bit impressionistic.
Some of the colors seem kitschy, but it tickles me to read such dedication and curiosity.

"Make the Beer Taste Better"
Oxidized titanium film has mysterious functions.
When we drink the beer or beverages by Titanium Colored Mug Cup,
we feel the taste of beer or beverages better.
If you have any question on the better taste, I recommend you to
buy the Mug cup and try the taste of beer.

This paragraph is a scream. I hate when my pulsejets aren't obedient so I can sympathize with his coloration process/teacher.
"The surface of titanium is so capricious that it is not obedient to
our intention. Sometimes the color is very clear, but next time, smudge
comes out. I had experienced many troubles at first.
I think the trouble is our teacher."

The tank had a little less fuel in it than I first thought. Just got a quick run in on low power. Towards the end when im pointing the camera down the tailpipe you can see a flash where the engine almost stops, and I kind of jump to the side. It quits shortly after.

Eric.
That made you jump. Had a few of them. Nick got a face full when we were trying to start that old Lockwood, looked like Ziggy Startdust for a few days.
Nice large dia induction pipe. Small birds go in, a tasty roast comes out.
Great stuff
Graham.
