Post by Jim Berquist » Thu Nov 02, 2006 2:04 am

Hi! Eric...

Back is better today!

I put together the fuel line set up and hooked it up.

I was looking for my sparker and remembered that I loaned it to someone and has not been returned. Cool.

I remember that I have a dead 1980 pinto on the property that belongs to my wife before we married. I go rob the coil out of it. My Sweet father in law had pulled the distributor out and let the sand get into the engine. Haa # 1.....He said it was out of time and or not sparking right!!! I take the coil in the house and wire it to a 12v relay set up as a vibrator it should have sparked like made. Haaa # 2.......The coil was dead meat!! A good car was killed by a simple oversight!!!

I'm back on 10 hour days and I just need to find a Audio transformer and or auto coil and fire it up..

I even looked through my fire works for some sparklers!!

You would have laughed at me last nite!!

I tried to heat up the cc. I tried to blow flames in the intakes, one side and air in the other....I tried to pull the plug and ignite it though it..... I tried to Blow air in the intakes! I need a sparker!!!!!

All I got was BAANNNG!,,,,,,WOOOOMP!,,,,,,,,,,,,And one fails start that lasted about 20 Milli Seconds!! It rumbled loud enough and long enough for me to back up and assess the situation!

It wants to run, I just don't have the spark, THIS WILL BE CORRECTED IN THE MORNING!!!!

I just need to get my Shit together.......

You can unscrew the spark plug and hold a torch perpendicular to the opening and it should run, it might not keep running unless you get it really warmed up, but it would work.

The combustion chamber is a little thick to work well with a regular propane torch, mapp gas might have worked better, or the cap or cone section where its only 20 gauge.

I know your going to want to go out and try running it now :D

Propane set up! Check!

Ignition set and on! Check! "buzz sound coming from engine"

Wet Vac with modified end on hose! On and cranking! Check!

Fuel on 1/4 valve setting ! BAAAAANNNNNNNIIING! Check!!!!!

Ears ringing! Check!

Fuel getting to engine! Check! "hisss from engine"

Administer air to intake right side! Wooooommmmp! BERRRRRRRR!!!!

Pull air away! Brrrrrrrrrrrruuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Houston! We Have Ignition!!!!!!! Running good. Not strong but good!!!!!

CC starts to darken! Engine is now running more like , UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMM! I think my ears are now covered!

CC is now starting to glow with a soft red color! Engine still running with the UUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

I Yell to my wife to fetch my ear muffs!!!! Check!

Disconnect sparker! Check........Engine did not notice the fact!!!

Ear Muff Equipped! I raise fuel by about 1/8th turn. Engine raised to More of the BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK! Type sound.

Ran at this setting for about 3-4 minutes.

Killed the engine by placing a cotton rag over the inputs! Turned off the propane tank and marked all settings, on the fuel control valve.

I ether got really lucky on my initial fuel settings or you built one hell of a engine!!!!!!!

Next run I will start fuel, clear the CC of air and then Start Ignition "sparker" No Bang!!!!!!

WHAT A HOOOT!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

Jim

Well Im glad you like it! :)

I feel if an enigne doesnt start instantly that somethings wrong with it and do my best to fix things.

The fixed fuel injector positions probably doesnt satisfy the experimenter in you but it should start up in an instant every time, for the next 10,000 years. :D

Always wear ear protection!

Eric:

As you was smart and placed the injector Y- setup on a cool spot on the tail pipe ,,,,,,Could I Cut the stand off welds you placed it on with a dremel and silver solder a test stand on it?

I would like to try some of your liquid made easy Ideas and injectors.

That way I could return the engine to it's original configuration and silver solder all back in place.....????

Temps in that area would not liquid the silver solder I think.....

I do not want to butcher the engine! I really would like to use it as a test bed and maybe place it on a glider. If I can jump up the thrust....Think a U-2,,,,,,,,Glider set up!!!!

I am looking at a bladder and needle valve set up!

Do you think it could be had????

Heated and preecooked fuel like a Colman stove would be most active ....

If the Unit was hot and you flowed fuel into the cooker, gasifying the liquid.....Liquid is in the mist phase and becoming gas as heated.....

A stepped set up ,,,,,I need to do a drawing on same......

I have to work saturday! I will work on it Sunday!!!!!

You could run the engine, stick a piece of silver solder on the spot you want it on, and see if it melts, if it does then it wont work :)

The engines really small so its going to be a pain to convert to liquid without a lot of playing around with but you should be able to do it. Just dont give up.

Eric: our little engine is the one that Could!

I think I figured a way to transition from propane to cooked fuel!

Keeping your hard wired Rossco fuel injectors! Intact!!

What gage metals did you use in the construction?

If you take away the test stand/display......it can't weigh 3/4 or 1 lb....

A 2 meter glider, only requires some 3 lb to Place it at flight altitude. 500-1000 ft.

If I launch it via Bungee. and Hot engine!!! Bump started!!!

I think it will do the job!

Twin tailed glider, Pj centered and up at least 6 or 8 inches from any fuselage!!!

U-2 type set up , exo-engine!!!!!

It would end up looking kind of like a V-1 with long wings.......I like it!!!

Neat. The formed sections and tailpipe are 20 gauge .035" and the combustion chamber is .049, part of a 3" J bend leg that I had cut off.

I wouldnt call it a flight engine but you could probably fly with it, especially if you use the bungiee and there is some wind to help it along.

If the thing flys on wind alone wind + jet engine = certian flight :D

Yea !!!!! your right!

Just a bunch of fun thoughts!

Even if the engine was there, mostly for the ride . Wouldn't it be a assume site?

But , then again !!!!! It's a good thing that the Bumble Bee can't read!

They would find out that they are aerodynamically ill equipped and unable to sustain flight!!!! HAAAAA!

You going to send the photos on some augmentation ideas?

Oh yep heres a sketch up. You could probably make most of the stuff from soda / spray cans and just silver solder them together. The most important part is the flare on the front, that creates an annular wing effect.

Soda Cans I have:

Beer cans I have:

I do not have a way to role the lip!!!!

How did you do it?

Pan brake, in steps?

Rollers? and or curler press"

You have toys that are above me!

How can I produce a curved lip on a cone??

The only way I could do it would be to slit and soulder the slits...

That would look like poop!

If you take a piece of wood, and round the edge with a wood rasp you will be able to hit the can with a ball peen hammer from the inside, and form the edge out into a nice big flare. I dont know how far you can go with aluminum, a steel can may work better.

To get the lip to curl back around, hammer the flare out a lot wider than you want, and then hit the front edge with a hammer to cause it to curl back around.

Or you could machine one from aluminum..... lots o fun there.

Eric:

Built a rendition of the Augmenter you shown out of a Solvent can!
How should I place it on the tail pipe???

Silver soldered some # 8 nutts to run some bolts to hold it in place.

I will not set them hard enough to damage the S.S. tail pipe.

I will run it long enough to see what it will do!!!

I will not hurt your baby! My engine, Did I say Mine? Mine! Mine!

I fired up the beast today with a deffernt bottle and it was better. I really think in the Propane world, all is not equil. Mind you it got up to 75 degrees today!
