re: Solid fule Reynst??
not enough thrust to make a flyer, but a little car would go nice!
Mike Often wrong, never unsure.

re: Solid fule Reynst??
How much trust can you get out of a simple, beer can sized Reynst? I havn't seen any numbers. As I've understood it, the Reynst is not built for thrust, but surely there must be some thrust in there that can be harvested?
The whole contraption would probably weigh less than 50 grams (two stacked beer cans with fins made from a third one), excluding fuel, so we don't need that much trust. Of course, the CC can will not last long, but it is not like it is hard or expensive to replace...
Or why not put skates on it, also made from beer can sheet metal. It could go fast as hell on a frosen lake. A frozen lake is also a nice test site, since it is usually far from people and pretty damn fireproof.
Maybe even put wings on it?
Remember, the more stuff we build out of beer cans, the more beer we will have that we only have one place to put...

.2 oz thrust at about 20 Hz as measured on an electronic scale.

Ouch, that's bad. On the other hand, that means that there is probably something that could be done to improve it...

Could an augmentor help some? If we have some moving gas, sucking more gas inte that stream wouldn't hurt.
Also, I've got the impression that heat preservation is not as important in the Reynst as in some other engines (since the primary use of them is for heat, not propulsion), perhaps some water injection would create some nice steam which would increase both the exhaust volume (and thereby also speed) and mass, without unduly harming the work cycle?
