here are some pictures from the test on wednesday. both are about 80% throttle and I just thought that it was pretty neat that there is virtually no visible flame even when I am looking through the entire length of the engine! The only diference between this test and most of my other ones was that this was in broad daylight, rather then the flourecent lights in the garage.
The new aluminium flare worked well, and it looks great too!

I like that. I'll have to try one. It's nice to see such a clean burner, and the fact that it runs well with no intake taper. faaaaascinating.

Steve you have been doing very well indeed.
Ive eventualy got the time to get in and catch up on my reading of whats been going on.

I had intake:exhast diameter ratio similar to the look of yours originaly.
I found that i came to a point where i couldnt get much further with that little asparation. It was then that i remodeled and swapped the diameters nearly exactly. It seems to run much harder that way. But looking at your work, maybe i was to soon in dismissing this initial set up.

Can someone into Uflow get this done for me to understand a little better? Take a running engine, steve's is a great example and just swap the diameters of the intake and exhast? In mine, the exhast probably worked out in the end not as small as the intake originaly was, but i would have at least halved it (this was to get it to run at all). And the intake was doubled its original size (diameter), with the correct ventury and diffuser. All in all it ran much harder, but at what cost. It sucked a heap more fuel, and put out a great deal more pressure out the front.

Steve. With your permision, could i make a test rig in copy of your engine to continue valuable work that you started with the internal intake setup, im sure there is much to be learnt. I think that your renderings of your engine without the front plate, were just spot on. I would like to build it and get some mods in there to accomodate that extra CC volume.
It does make a huge difference. I sould know, my CC worked out to be 20' and only 3"dia. The biggest prob in this is that it makes for a very long tail. (at least i think that is what causes it in my engines.
Is there anywhere where the dimensions for these engines are all in one place? Or could i get them from you direct?

Thanks

Rossco

PS Mike I think that i said my original didnt need or like the taper too. Its the smaller intake thing maybe?

Rossco,
feel free to use any and all the information I have posted here. As I said before to nick, I love being copied since it must mean that I am doing something right!

I wish you the best of luck- no one wants to see that particular design run more then me!

No taper sure makes it easier to length change. I'm not sure it's a small engine thing. Yours was big, Bill's Kentfield too.

Got in and made the FWEvariation. And what can i say, its messy.

I didnt have a good tail for it, so i just stuck a mandrel bend over the end of the CC. Thought that id feed some juice into it to see what hapens, and what do you know it runs.

Very week, and likes to suck air in the bodge joint at the CC/tail, so spews flames every now and then.

I got some video, but am having a hard time compressing it. Need help with Bink, that i downloaded as sugested.

Ill stick it up here if i can get it right.

Im just posting it as a avi file? Whatever that is.
I binked it to 25% its original size, dont know if i could go lower than this?
What do you use to produce wmv. files?
Its 1.76Mb, but i dont know what else to do with it.

I should also mention that i was running out of gas. This is its final kick, then it winds down and dies.

Rossco,
Windows usually has windows movie maker built in, older versions are crap but the one that comes with xp is pretty good for compressing down to the 2 mb for the website.

Eric

Oh yea.... even though i never click "watch topic" and I have the email notification of topic reply turned off I still get messages whenever anyone replys. For some reason that has been happening for the past few days and I dont know why... anyone else?

Nothing but Quicktime will read the files of my camera. Even the software for the camera?
Movie maker doesnt recognise them either. MOV files.
Ill just get a shot of it, and post an audio with it.
I think its running in some weird reynst mode, seems pretty low frequency to me.
The quiet bit in the middle is it belching flames and me nearly falling over.

Thanx, sorry about the post filling.

Rossco,
Are you saving the .mov file to your computer and then trying to open it with windows movie maker? My camera puts it in .mov format too. If you just right click on the video and "open with" movie maker it doesnt work.

What you have to do is go to the movie maker file menu and "import into collections" and then you have the video that you can chop to size and compress.

To save the movie you can just go to the save movie file and then it gives you a ton of different options.

I always zip the movie files because if you dont internet explorer automatically tries to play the file and ususally ends up screwing things up or not letting you replay the video without redownloading it.

Hopefully it will work for you,
Eric

If it is already less then 2mb then just put it in a compressed folder (.zip file) and upload that. That way there is no reason to mess with any other movie programs.

was it actually running without forced air in that sound file? amazing. It does sound exactly like one of my reynsts.

I've had the same problem for months. What might work is unchecking the "Notify me when reply is posted" box every time you write a post.

Its never checked when I hit submit, I even made sure of that lately and it still notified me of the replys to that message. It seems to have stopped today, hopefully.....

Rossco, have you figured out windows movie maker yet? that should be the easiest in the future when you have to size things down.

Eric

Oh yea, steve how long is your current intake lenght?
