Re: no-weld pulse jet
Well where does the valve go? Could it be no-weld?? That flat bottom is too big for a valve. Also, how to make a venturi?
Re: no-weld pulse jet
Hi everyone - i'm another pulsejet newbie.
I'm considering building a no-weld pulsejet but i'm not sure about a few aspects - like a few others i don't want to buy bruce simpson's CD as i've heard complaints about it. I was wondering what you're supposed to do with the thermos flask's inner jacket - won't that get in the way of the valves and disrupt combustion?

Re: no-weld pulse jet
No worries - i literally just found out how easy it is to remove the inner jacket (at least, with this particular flask). I just filed down the edges at the very top of the flask and the join between the inner and outer was revealed. A little more filing and it simply came apart.
Re: no-weld pulse jet
Sorry about this - another rookie question...
How do you go about making a neat valve retainer with only simple hand tools???

Hi James, do you have a drill press?
Mike Often wrong, never unsure.

Hello Mike,
I'm afraid i don't own my own drill press, but i might be able to use the one in my school's D&T workshop. However, i was hoping i could get the pulsejet built before i have to go back to school.

Re: no-weld pulse jet
How then are you making the valve plate with the holes?
For the retainer, you can clamp down a hand drill to make yourself a crude lathe. Put a thick washer on a bolt with nuts. Once you get your washer spinning, go at it with a file to get the proper shape.

Thanks for the quick reply - i'll try that as soon as i get the washer (i actually tried something very similar to smooth my valve plate).
As for the holes, i've just been using a regular electric hand drill. I think it should be ok for use in a pulsejet.

Re: no-weld pulse jet
On flattening/smoothing the valve plate, you would be far better off putting some fine sandpaper on top of a piece of glass, and orbiting the plate on the sandpaper in a figure 8 pattern. It is very important for this surface to be flat and smooth.

Re: no-weld pulse jet
Hello again...
I've been looking for a washer thick and wide enough to use in my pulsejet - i can't find anything to suit my valve (the valve plate is 8cm in diameter). Is it possible to use a disc of sheet steel bent into shape with pliers? I'ts very crude, i know, and i'm guessing it'll kill my valves pretty quick, but i'm just looking to get it running for now - i'll still keep a look out for a suitable washer, though.
