Possible to convert valveless to valved?
I've got a hankering for a valved engine. I've been wondering if I could convert my Pyro Joe's engine to reeds. I saw the thread on external valve grids with the 4 petal Reed that looked very interesting. I saw a Chinese style in that thread with an added on valve which sparked my interest. I'm trying to make heads or tails of these old 40s blueprints but they look like a bit of machining involved.

Valved and valveless engines have different geometries, so you can't just convert one into the other

That said, both have similar acoustic geometries. I remember plotting out the acoustic length correction for the bell mouth of a valver, and it yielded the length you’d expect for a valveless intake tube. It would be a very interesting project, proving they are actually much more similar than one might think!
Mike Often wrong, never unsure.
