Springloaded valve design for extended use

Post by nalexandrov » Mon Sep 17, 2012 11:07 pm

So instead of using a spring-steel valve which is prone to breakage why not use a thick, hardened valve which is compressed by a spring? This way you can use a higher flow-through cross-section than traditional springsteel valves. Also since the valve backs off the ports in a parallel fashion there is a large opening. I included a picture with the traditional valve system on the top and the design I am reccomending on the bottom. The only downside I can think of is that do to the larger mass this valve system would operate at a lower frequency. What do you guys think? A prototype can be made from a traditional valve system by just adding a spring.

yes, I think you already know why it will not work well. It will beat itself to death (the incredibly light regular ones do, too), and be frequency limited, and you have to guide them in a horrible environment, adding more mass to do that...
Mike Often wrong, never unsure.
