CFD modelling of a valved pulse-jet engine

Post by codecracker » Mon Aug 29, 2011 1:45 pm

Hello everyone,
Forgive me if my questions seem to amateurish - I'm a total noob when it comes to pulse-jets. So, I've taken up a project of making a working oulse jet model in my college and I just wanted to ask - is there a way to model a pulse jet through CFD simulations before actually going ahead with making the real thing? I mean, I just want to make sure that the dimensions of our model will give us satisfactory results. Or is there any rigorous mathematical analysis behind the actual workings of the engine.

Since I'm new to this area, I'm using the dimensions and methods used by Bruce Simpson in his "An Enthusiasts Guide to Pulse Jet engines"
Here's a link to his site : http://aardvark.co.nz/pjet/

He seems to know a lot about it and I'm using one of his pj15 blueprints to make my model. I just wanted to do some mathematical analyses before moving forward.

A little help would be grateful! Thanks a lot in advance! :)

c,

Do a search here on the forum for the word, "pj15", and you will find 10 matches.

You may want to use Eric's calculator as a check on Bruce's suggestions. It may be found here.

Good Luck and keep us informed of your progress.
