TIG welded stainless steel pulse jet

Post by David Bue » Fri Apr 30, 2004 11:48 am

Hi everybody!

I'we just posted a topic aout thrust in a pulse jet engine, and found the answer to my question.

In June, during my summer holydays, I'm attending a 3 weeks TIG welding class at the tecnical university of Denmark where i study.

My question is as follows:

Should i take any measurements if i build a pulse jet during this class in stainless steel? Stainless steel definately Have different mechanical properties than iron, does this influence etc. the resonance?

Kindest regards
David

No, i dont think stain less steel inflicts the resonance too mutch since this material holds up to heat quite well.

Just be avare that stainless steel can be hard to roll due to the stiffness.

If you are going to build a large one, play safe and use at least 2mm thick steel plates. A pulsejet that cracks/explodes can be nasty.
