Re: (g)nu box testing
FOX does not support Linux. I finally figured out how to get their Move Player to work consistently using wine and Firefox 2 (I find 3 too buggy for this application). You have to find a version of wine that works and stick with it; be reluctant to upgrade it. It's called wine regression.
I'm starting to enjoy the show, Fringe.

An image on a text monitor. Looks even more striking if you ZOOM out.

Re: (g)nu box testing
I am working on backing up one of my purchased DVD movies in Linux. It's taken some time to figure it all out, but I'm getting close to the desired result. The newer encryption thwarts a lot of my attempts, thus slowing me down even more.
I'm now using Xvid and mp3 stereo in an avi container. Total size of the 7 files is 2.3 GB.

I attribute my success to these two softwares, dvdbackup and
,
and a LOT of reading (mixed with a lot of failures when 'weeding out' other softwares that didn't work properly for me).

Re: (g)nu box testing
Taking the time to 'sort out' my other video software has paid dividends here. XVid Screen Capture (xvidcap) now works on my system without crashing.

Below is an animated .gif89a (58.7 KB) I made after resizing the .mpeg (321.9 KB) xvidcap made while capturing the output from yet another program I was running.
Drumhead motion
The movie above shows the motion of a circular drumhead. The drumhead started with a bump in about the same location you see; it has fallen, split in half, run around to the opposite side of the drum, reflected, and returned to near its initial position at the time of this frame.

The above is a 2D or two-dimensional wave.
