"Mark, when you hear the sirens, tie yourself to your lathe bed and ride it out. Naw, you'd just start drilling jam jar lids. ;-) "
Just you be careful Mike not to sail too close to the Pulsejet Sirens, if you haven't already. They'll make you want to buy them things too. ha
Avoid being too curious, that's how they draw men in, with their innocent little jam jars, curvy little shapes with sweet fruit in them that makes one wonder.
I don't have remind you about my Klein bottle odyssey do I? I have foolishly selected strawberry jam jars off the store shelf only to have my life unravel, stay away from those isles. The depression that follows, wondering how to make something useful out of them, it's brutal I tell you. I'm forced to drill holes in lids and I can't stop. I'll probably die here. ha

"Odysseus was curious as to what the Sirens sounded like, so, on Circe's advice, he had all his sailors plug their ears with beeswax and tie him to the mast. He ordered his men to leave him tied to the mast, no matter how much he would beg. When he heard their beautiful song, he ordered the sailors to untie him but they stuck to their orders (or they couldn't hear him). When they had passed out of earshot, Odysseus demonstrated with his frowns to be released (Odyssey XII, 39)."

pulse jet valves
The best way to make a few valves is by etching them out much easier than trying to cut them by hand especially if you want more than one. I got mine cnc cut due to the fact I wanted a few hundred done...
To do the etching try Bruce Simpsons method
http://aardvark.co.nz/pjet/makevalves1.pdf
I just hooked up a 12v gel cell and waited till it cut the metal I didnt worry about any fancy figures. And the valves I made worked very well in my speed ships
Robert
ps: DONT LAZER CUT THEM AS THE MATERIAL HAS A TENDANCY TOO CATCH ON FIRE OR EXPLODE !!!!!

Something about that post reminds me of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_League_Now!
pulse jet valves
that's how this valve is made. 9 individual petals I shaped on a grinding wheel and then pinned them down in place.

Another 9 petal valve design. ha
"The valves have individual petals to facilitate replacement of one at a time and to facilitate making them at home."
