Steve's tiger jet

Post by steve » Mon Dec 19, 2005 10:26 pm

I have finished all the machining for the engine, but I still need to buy some .15 inch stainless for the tailpipe.

the fuel injector assembly has been modified to make it much more robust and the cowl has been eliminated, other then that, everything is pretty much to spec. as you can see, I am enjoying my access to the college machine shop!

BTW, If anyone has a few of the tiny spark plugs (1/4-20 thread) and wouldn't mind parting with one in exchange for $10 or so please let me know!

Do you mean .015ths or I think my Tigerjet is .020ths but I'd have to mic it again to see.

the plans say .15 but .2 would be fine since I'm not that concerned about weight. I probably wouldn't get up the nerve to fly it anyway- it took A LOT of work to make and I'd be afraid of crashing it.

I just measured my Tigerjet with my calipers and it looks like 15 thousandths of an inch thick which is written 0.015. When you start it up it will really surprise you, it did me, it is very, very loud for it's small size.

Is the blow tube pointing so that it blows over the holes in the fuel thing? It mught not work if it doesn't.

My 1/4-32 spark plug was something like $17, so I'm afraid I won't sell it for $10...
oops- It might have been 1/4-32 after all, I'll have to consult the plans again. I guess I might just have to order one online.

the blow tube has not been soddered in place yet so what you see is not necessarily what you get! the nice thing about sodder is that it will allow me to make adjustments if the thing is missaligned.

ooops again- I ment .015 (.020) but I dont have the plans in front of me so I keep giving wrong measurements. I should print out another set.

yeah, it is really nice. I can't wait to start playing with the CNC stuff too.

BTW, I was pretty impressed with the work you've done on pulsejet/turbine. I'd be curious to know weather it would work with a valveless engine or weather the acoustical interferance with the turbine would be too much for it.

I will be conducting some tests of my own (hopefully) when some time and material become available.

Thanks Steve! Not sure what a valveless would do with a turbine stuck on the end. My 2" straight valveless was very unstable and the wind would blow it out so I assumed it would kill it. You've had much more success with your valveless jets though.

I reckon one of those constant burn valveless jets might do the trick - it's on the list of new year projects after the car is finished lol

If you've got any questions about my project just send them this way, I'm happy to answer.

Jon
