Motor jet, afterburning EDF

Post by Axel Borg » Tue Jul 13, 2010 9:33 am

Hi
People have been asking for more information regarding an EDF afterburner shown on you tube, and I thought that it might be of interest for some members of this forum as well. The kit is out of stock, but the original building instruction that came with the kit is now available as a free download pdf. The building instruction is quite informative and reveals the key design features that make stable combustion possible in seemingly high speed air flow ducts. Check out the Free download section at:

Heck yeah! Lots of good stuff there, and I think it's been talked about a dozen times here. So nice to see it all worked out!
Mike Often wrong, never unsure.

Hi Axel

LOL.....very enjoyable :-))

We only need air speeds of <400 ft/sec at the afterburner inlet to have stable combustion , easily achieved ........................there would need to be careful consideration made as to the "best" EDF , preferably more of a "low speed" unit rather than something for a highspeed RC aircraft , so that the EDF produces more "pressure??" rather than highspeed air , any unit producing high speed air would need a modest diffuser before the A/B but that produces losses so not such a good way to go .

The unit in the vid appears to have "too much" nozzling , more losses from the surface friction .

An interesting experiment though, thanks for the Link :-))

Cheers
John

The motorjet not very efficient, but could power a light aircraft perfectly.
This is my prototype, lightweight, reliable and cost little money.
