Design Contest- Build your Dream Plane

Post by Zippiot » Wed Sep 24, 2008 10:35 pm

Need some help deciding on the rules but...

Design Contest- Design your own plane!! Sounds a bit too simple at the moment. All of us have access to some kind of computer design software, be it free google sketchup etc.

Draw up a dream plane of YOUR OWN DESIGN, try to make it flightworthy!!

After an hour of struggling with google sketchup, here is the EARLY stages of my design. Cant really figure out what I'm doing so all the curved surfaces came out flat, thus it looks like an F-117 lol

As tempting as this may be I might have to sit this one out, i haven't really decided yet, unless theirs huge demand to see a pj spec duskbat.
Though not an elegant flier, and lacking the wing area to slope soar, (i need to stop trying to slope soar jets) it is naturally stable and in need of being built larger, with a big ass pulsejet on the back.... if I can be stuffed. Also when I vacuum bagged it I muffed it entirely.

I do have another generic PJ plane nearly built, i'm nearly on holidays with any luck I'll finish it.

Couldn't help myself,
something kinda sorta like this floats my boat...
Pj powered of course, 80 lbs (2x40) should well and truly be enough to do it!

Maybe i should throw it in the open source project :D

When I get back from class I'm getting to work on my new plane. Im feeling you ride it like a motorcycle :P

James, think a PJ pumping a ramjet would work in a flight motor? If so thats whats gonna power my jet!

Guess I'll throw this old one of mine out there -- many of the more recent participants have probably never seen it.

Semi-monocoque construction; welded steel tubing frame with sheet plywood skin throughout.

Steerable nose wheel/rudder, very cool. Like the guy who jsut flew over the English Channl and used his head to steer [!!!]

Backpack jet, hmmmmm

Ramjets are cool but pretty impractical under mach 1. I remember seeing a TSFC chart stating something like 11 when under 1 or 1.5. I think a really good design, somewhat reminiscent of Bodine's or Melanrics examples would be right on if your not happy with a typical design.

Larry your plane looks rather cool, fiberglass /ply is a good way to go.
