Vulcan roars into action, a nice title for an article on the return to flight of one of Britons original V bomber force the Avro Vulcan.
When I still lived in England I used to take a tour of the aircraft museums and I had the pleasure of having a look around and inside one of the Vulcans on display, what you don't get from looking at pictures is just how big this aircraft really is, the bomb bay is huge! I had the impression looking up in to the open bay that it would easily accommodate a truck! and that bay was designed to hold one stand off bomb originally!
Its a fantastic aircraft but my other favorite V bomber was the Victor, not too many of those around now and none flying but a very pretty aircraft all the same, the Vulcan was powered by 4 Rolls-Royce Olympus engines of traditional layout with the compressor at the front feeding the combustors in the middle and finally driving the power turbine at the rear, for those interested in how a gas turbine engine works I have put a pre-configured Google search below.

Re: Vulcan roars into action
I sat in the cockpit of one of those not 3 weeks ago, smaller cockpit then the spitfire and its instant brain explosion with all the dials and buttons, let alone being near impossible to see out the front of! Remarkable plane none the less.
Re: Vulcan roars into action
When I was really really small - a Vulcan flew right over our house.
It was so low you could see rivets - you could've sat on my 'sitting'
tree and reached up and touched it.
The HUGE white delta wing is one of the awesome memories I have from
my childhood!
