Rosco and I were talking about a kayak to mount some engines on at some point, I found this and thought it was hilarious, and a little scary lol... paddling away...then all of a sudden...BOOM! Hahaha No curry for you rossco!

. It appears the 'sub-skirt' atmosphere in a typical sea kayak can be similar to that of Uranus, namely a 97% methane/hydrogen mix
LOL, I wonder if the writer meant to do that. That sentence made the whole article.

Obliquely relevant to kayaks ...

Am I the only one with a sense of humor warped enough to see the humor in that?

sub-skirt.....ur-anus....methane atmosphere....

You're not the only one El-K

I think that a quick glance at the link that I posted will reveal that you are not alone ...

Fueling

I think we may be missing a golden chance on fueling.

Think Pusle-Jet and Flashback arrester within the fuel line here! As long as you can maintain the positive pressures ,life would be good!

This would require some vigorous training and Diet!

Augmented with a pressure type of bladder fuel bag and you would have unlimited control!

Ahhhhh... Pez, I should've known.

Jim, that's hillarious.

Lol Jim why do i get the feeling you've already begun training lol!
I wonder what would happen if I tried to light my cigarette on Uranis now... I think it would look great, for brief, fleeting moment i'd be able to see it.

Makes me wonder though, surely a meteor has hit uranis at some point in history, I wonder why the extreme heat from friction + impact (if there is any ground I haven't checked yet) didn't just detonate the entire planetary atmosphere, crazy... who wants marshmallows?

The topic has made me think of a previous post I found in a book published around 1900. It pertained to hydrogen and oxygen. There was this idea of fuel and oxidizer turned on its head. They flip-flopped a flame back and forth inside a glass globe as shown in an illustration, going from a normal scenario to the atmosphere/oxidizer being hydrogen and the jet of fuel being an oxygen flame looking like a candle burning. The concept was that we see oxygen as the oxidizer but really these gases are two equal reactants. On a planet like Uranus with 82% hydrogen, if you brought a tank of oxygen there you could run it the same as you burn a straight hydrogen flame/torch on earth, just everything reversed.

"Apparently the lightning strikes on Uranus are more powerful than those on Earth, but nowhere near as strong as the magnificent electrical discharges on Saturn. The bolts are giant sparks of static electricity generated by turbulence in the Uranian atmosphere."

"As a gas it is flammable only over a narrow range of concentrations (5–15%) in air." (Kayak relevant info)

Exactly. You could use a liquid oxygfen tank and have a liquid-fuel pulsejet or ramjet entry vehicle, with the engine breathing the Uranian atmosphere and the LOX pumped in as fuel, as long as the delivery system was carefully designed to provide the proper mixture.

Someday ... someday ... I'm going to try my old idea of a lye-sprayed-on-aluminum hydrogen fueled engine. Remember, you saw it here first ;-)

Mark: There was talk about sending deep space ships carrying nothing but oxidizers and tanking up on Uranus!

Irvine: This is not a project for new types of injectors! Exhaust and collection Only . Proven systems will be employed! NOOOOO Room for errors! Or experiments! If there was a Oxigen Content, Maybe we would have two SUN's......? The sun has not ox yet it is in atomic mode. You have to get it hot enough to start the reaction.

In all seriousness! I terminate this experiment! I just remembered a young Airman that Ignited one and ended up hospitalized. YEA End Game!

Side Note: The Mexican foods here along the border are most productive!
