Pressurised Liquid Fueling In Valveless Pulsejets (Rev 1)

This is a small paper I've been working on to describe some of the pro's and cons to pressurised liquid fueling in valveless pulsejets. It describes all the tools and electronics you'll need, how to set it up, nozzles, pumps and some hints and tip on how to tune it up. Some pictures are included also. It will be updated as I go, but should get you right up to the point where you can start experimenting. Some of my nozzles are floating around the US, so hopefully we'll hear some feed back on them soon.
I put this together sort of on the fly, my dream is to see you all fly your jet engines, so get to it!

Dudes and dudettes,
I have spent considerable time playing with pressurised liquid fueling now, and I'd like to just pass this on but will update the Document a bit later.

What this is a dual injection system I'm using in the IAE Raptor. The top injector is a 25/ml per minute at 145psi, and the main feed is 90ml/min at 145 psi. Together they don't flow quite 115 its more like 110, but, its very very effective. My Raptor now really hammers hard, so i'll be slowly coming up on injector size. I can see that having an extra injector just means more things to go wrong, but with a small brass Y Joint and silver solder it will practically never come loose... unless you crash I suppose

I had a 5 minute solid run today throttling up and down with no flameout, however the top injector needs to be brought up to a 40ml per minute injector to see how that goes. Since I am using only crap ass kerosene I will need more flow, but I can always advise which injector combinations to use depending on your desired fuel. I have it on good advice 50/50 methanol gasoline, (Methanol in HEET product which contains an emulsifier for oil products) works damn well.

Larry if you recall you said to me that rear facing injectors might cause huge amounts of sheer (with much experimentation required)

Well in this case, it works damn well, good show!

The fuel lines below are 3/16inch D

It is bright so you cant physically see the throttle range as well as i could but its as easily controlled and nearly as high as propane, not bad for its first run.

Using my new injectors and a sig gasser pump.

With a flight works pump one could achieve probably better power and performance yet! As it twice the pressure of the sig, you can use smaller nozzles, which give much better atomisation then the large ones used here.

I'm not taking anything away from this its ready to use right now, KICK ASS! Best part is i can do it 100 times over on other engines, tigged next time though!

As a plane, would a design like this have any potential - with the engine mounted some distance, but not to much, under it? I understand that it would not be very agile but with the engine like that, it would be highly stable

Absolutely beautiful, James! Great work.

James, see if you can rig an external mic on your camcorder. I think most (probably all) of them have a mic jack. Then get yourself a good directional or quasi-directional mic and set it up so it's aimed at your face from a stand a few feet back. You'll get a lot better voice pickup, once you figure out exactly how to set the right distance and location.

What great fun seeing that work with ordinary liquid fuel!
