potential engine configuration using pde

Post by mspiller » Fri Feb 02, 2007 9:49 pm

iv'e heard of attempts to make ram/scram jet engines that continue using same operation forces and involve minor changes in mechanics but could a jet have PDE to obtain ram jet minimal cruise speed and then affectively change using bilayered metals in which diffences in expansion due to heat changes bend metal and ramjet flight takes over. Ramjet then alters shape as spped increases and engine heat increases until it reaches and affective design for scramjet flight.

please comment, i believe deformatons of engines due to heat can be designed in this area but im not sure if PDE can reach the speeds of scramjets due to either physics or lack of research but It intrests me if these typ of desigs can be mastered due to their incredible efficiency.

Ram and Scram Jets use air that pass through them that is already compressed to ignite the problem with that is they have to be moving extremely fast to even start (Ram's at least mach 1, Scram's at least mach 2 or 3) What a PDE could be used for is getting up to these speeds, maybe, because they now can not be designed to fly faster than mach one most likely due to the reverse intake step by the PDE. But a point of interest of many designers would be to turn a PDE into a Ram jet as its flying by simply eliminating the valve and the reverse intake step. but turning a PDE into a Scram jet would be extremely difficult and almost impossible to envision.

hope this answers something
