Watts per pound for aircraft

Post by Mike Everman » Tue May 01, 2012 5:20 pm

Interesting find re: power required for various aircraft vs. weight of aircraft.
Research showed that general RC aircraft rule of thumb (for electrics) was 50-150W per pound of aircraft, depending on whether you want to just get it flying vs. full 3d aerobatics.
I checked a Cessna 172 vs. an Extra300 aerobatic plane, and the same holds for these bigger aircraft. faaaaascinating!
Mike Often wrong, never unsure.
