FINALLY, New Deck Is All Finished

Post by larry cottrill » Thu Nov 11, 2010 3:27 am

Just thought you might like to see the new front deck I mentioned long ago, now completely finished. My son Jonathan built the whole thing, working entirely alone except for my help with the concrete work and the very heavy lower framing. This took him about a year to build, since he could work on it only very sporadically (he does not live anywhere nearby). Most of the work was done at night, with the help a big construction light he bought. He also purchased many new tools for this project.

Construction is round-edged cedar planks, finished with redwood stain. I think he made an awfully nice job of this, especially considering that he has never worked construction professionally.

Deck is all cedar except for green treated subframe on
concrete piers. Most of the year it will be in shade
all day.

The northwest corner is cut off with a long diagonal railing.
A shorter diagonal rail is at the other corner adjacent the stair.
