Sam's "engine" (NUDiS) could be used to solve a variety of 1d unsteady flow problems (e.g.
shock tube), but from the command prompt. It required an input data file that needed to
be created by the end user. It generated several output data files that required an external
graphics program to plot the results.

IOW, the user needed some idea of what he was doing in order to use it effectively; not unlike
many other codes I have seen before and since then.

It wasn't as easy to use as was Uflow 1D. That code could also rapidly generate results.

However, since sam's "engine" (NUDiS) was standalone, it could conceivably be called by another program. It could be extended. One could not do that with Uflow 1D.

Ah I see. So Graham's responsible for the UI and not the actual code?

 That's correct.

Apparently, Graham chose Excel for its built-in graphics capabilities and wrote macros for both pre- and post-processing of I/O for NUDiS.

Graham's utilization of µSoft Excel may not have been the best choice of a "programming"
language, if you can call it that.

What needs to be done here, is to run some verification tests on this program.
