Jet compressor

Post by giga84 » Sun Feb 14, 2010 2:03 pm

I am not an engineer or that learned .

I can't get an answer for this so i am asking here. In a air engine car the major weight is the compressed gas cylinders. If they can be eliminated by a jet compressor connected to a cylinder which outlets to the engine. Then you will get to eliminate most of the weight. So can a small jet compressor run of a li-ion battery and also how much compressed air can it provide to the cylinder?
I know this is lame but please do reply?

Thanks

Regardless of compressor technology used, doing this would only net you an inefficient, heavier, all-electric vehicle

Your basic all-electric vehicle looks like this:
Battery -> Motor -> Drivetrain -> Wheels

What you're proposing looks like this:
Battery -> Motor -> Compressor -> Air Motor -> Drivetrain -> Wheels

All you're adding to the equation is additional weight, complexity and energetic loss.
