As usual practice, I had to dig two approximately 60 ft long paths to the cars in order to dig them out. A snow plow had "crescent mooned" them by piling snow on top of the 2 feet that had fallen already behind them, blocking their access to the road.

I got one car 'dug out' and I can access the road with it. I hate being 'snow bound'. The other car may have to wait for the spring thaw.

Hi Forrest

I can imagine that's come as bit of a surprise for you there ;-) I saw some nice pictures on the BBC that summed it up http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/8502713.stm

Funny but we have not had so much snow this year in the lac saint-jean area of Quebec, bit of a storm coming in now but i suppose that's the edge of what just visited you ;-)

Hi Viv,

Those pictures in that link pretty much sum it up; save for the work involved "digging out". We don't have this much "dump" on us very often, but it does happen occasionally. Now they're saying to brace for another by Tues/Wed. I may have to tinker with my ol' snow thrower.

Saturday evening I dug the one car out. Sunday, I took the car out to view the damage in other locales. Almost got stuck turning off the main road onto my street.

Today, I dug the other car out. However, another 2 to 4 inches is expected to fall tomorrow.

Hi Forrest

Yes you guys have definitely won the snow prize this year, who would have thought you would take it from the Canadians ;-) we are having to truck snow in to the mountains for the winter Olympics ;-)

It is interesting to see how the weather patterns have changed this year to affect snow fall, normally its Gulf of Mexico water vapor we see up here but looking at CNN the weather guy says this lot your getting is from the Pacific!

High winds give me some concern. They knock down snow-laden trees, which sometimes fall on power lines causing people to go without electrical power for days. Thank the Lord for the invention of kerosene heaters when this happens. No electricity but your water pipes won't freeze.

The storm that arrived was of lesser intensity than the one predicted to come. 2 to 4" fell by this evening and another 2 to 4" expected by morning.

This time the "snow plow" guy pushed the snow past the rear of my cars and into the street's berm. This substantially reduced my time in getting the cars drivable. Thank the Lord, I got a "smart one" this time.

Hi Forrest

You dodged the bullet then ;-) I was watching the CNN news last night and the antics the forecasters were getting up to showing DC and other places under the storm, we are lucky here as your storm is moving off to sea and not coming up as high as Quebec.

I know what you mean about the snow plow driver ;-)

We missed the gusty winds, too. Yesterday the roads were most treacherous; the temp hovered around 31 F. You would park your driven car somewhere, come back in 20 minutes only to find the windows and doors 'icing up'.

Thanks for the communique Viv. It helps to put things in their proper perspective.
