I've been running my Toshiba Satellite over the last couple of days. I've making it do some 'real work' in Linux, though it can still boot to XP if I so desire.

Not liking the touchpad ... I added a USB mouse.

I bought a Logitech V220 cordless optical for my notebook around Christmas time. I wasn't using the laptop a lot, but this mouse seemed to work fine. It's a 3-button with a scrolling wheel.

It may be that my earlier use at Christmas did not involve any applications of the 3rd button, but earlier this week, I could not use XFig properly because when I pushed down on the scroll wheel ... nothing happened.

What really got my attention was the mouse and keyboard started to interact in a bad way in other Desktop scenarios. I would be typing in one window, and then ... all of a sudden I would be pressing keys in another. Not good.

I left the machine for a while ( I left it 'on') and then came back to it. The screensaver had initiated by then, I moved the mouse, the screen lit and all of a sudden, boom the machine rebooted. WTF!

I do like the feel and the looks of this mouse. I got the last of the dark blue/purple metallic ones. It is sharp.

However, "it doesn't work for me" I told myself and I was about to return the mouse when it suddenly dawned on me ...

I downloaded a kernel upgrade today, rebooted the machine and everything went "according to plan".

When running DOSBox or an application in it, the mouse can become captured in the window. To release it, press Ctrl-F10.

Installing some of the old programs from the 80's that ran under DOS can be a real "bear" to install in order to run under DOSBox.

For some reason, digiKam was taking longer than I remember to find new photos on my camera. I aborted the process.

I did change something, and after a bit of a wait I did see my new camera pictures. But I'm unsure if that was the 'fix' or that I needed to just be less 'impatient'.
