Happy Thanksgiving (in the US, anyway)

Post by larry cottrill » Tue Nov 25, 2008 6:02 pm

Happy Thanksgiving to all! As always, I'm thankful for all of you (US or otherwise) who make these forums enjoyable and help me learn things I couldn't possibly have ever imagined.

Here's some historical Thanksgiving stuff some might find enjoyable:

Famous Thansksgiving proclamations, listed from most recent to earliest:

After some introductory material, a sermon in response to Washington's famous proclamation -- note the interesting reference to the Whiskey Rebellion:

And, a general history of celebrating Thanksgiving in the New World. Not too long, with some interesting details, well footnoted to original documents:

I hope this will be interesting stuff to those who care about early American history.

Hope you have a great family holiday, everyone!
