Funny how some creatures will mimic living and non-living things, yet this actor is so amorphous you have to wonder how many masks he could become if given a motive or trained to do so. Seems like a quick learner. ha

Reminds me of an old post regarding masks.
On the secret of life by Loren Eiseley, last chapter in "The Immense Journey"...
"I do not think, if someone finally twists the key successfully in the tiniest and most humble house of life, that many of these questions will be answered, or that the dark forces which create lights in the deep sea and living batteries in the waters of tropical swamps, or the dread cycles of parasites, or the most noble workings of the human brain, will be much if at all revealed. Rather, I would say that if "dead" matter has reared up this curious landscape of fiddling crickets, song sparrows, and wondering men, it must be plain even to the most devoted materialist, that the matter of which he speaks contains amazing, if not dreadful powers, and may not impossibly be as Hardy has suggested, "but one mask of many worn by the Great Face Behind. "The researchers needed to be able to change a cat's lapping speed in order to test their theory. So they developed a robotic version of a cat's tongue — a mechanical column with a 1-inch glass disk at the tip. This device allowed the researchers to study the liquid column for different lapping speeds using a high-speed digital camera. The initial image was taken at 1000 frames per second. The video above is slowed to 15 frames per second."

"It seems that a normal cat - or a tiger, lion or jaguar - bends the tip of its tongue downward and then flicks it at the surface of its beverage of choice. The lingual piston thus formed is then whipped back into the mouth, causing a spout or column of liquid to surge up beneath it."
