I gather you can use methanol, ethanol, or isopropyl alcohol with dry ice for these very simple cloud chambers. Kind of pretty starting around the 1:40 minute mark.

Saw this description on ebay of a typical flat-front linear valveless pulsejet, an interesting use. I myself made something similar using a length of 1.25 inch diameter pipe and an aluminum beer bottle with a small plumbing pipe intake mounted on the flat bottom of the bottle. It was so loud I couldn't stand to fire it without hearing protection. And as mentioned I found MAPP gas to be somewhat louder.

"Up for sale is a 3-5 pound thrust valveless pulse jet engine. I originally manufactured this motor and mounted it to a propane torch head to use as a hunting dog training device. Using propane it produced sound equivalent to a .22 rifle. With MAPP it sounded like a .223 rifle. I have since ground the original mounts off and it is now ready to be set up as a full fledged pulse jet or as a noise making device as I first had it set up."
" You will need to provide your own fuel line to feed into the front intake, a regulator to control fuel flow/thrust, and an on board starter if you desire. The jet will easily self start with the proper fuel flow and a sparkler or other burning material inserted into the tailpipe. The motor is 2' long from intake to exhaust with a 2"x3" combustion chamber. "

Here's a toy similar in some respects. The best thing about these devices is how incredibly simple they are to make.

Here's a reply I got from the ebay seller after asking him a question of how he came to start using his valveless pulsejet as a pop gun device, it's quite delightful.

Hi,
I was testing chamber design at a friend's place. He is a hunter and had several dogs he used for duck hunting. At the time I was using a torch with a piezo ignition. I noticed every time I filled the chamber with gas and set it off the dogs would go nuts running around looking for a falling duck, lol. We got to talking and I asked him how he trained his dogs so they would not be gun shy. He told me he had purchased one of those hand help blank fired decoy launchers. I am not sure if you are familiar with them but they are pretty much a handle that has a small spring loaded chamber and short tube to place the round/oval decoy. Once armed you pull a pin which sets the blank off producing a loud gunshot like noise while launching the decoy for the dogs to recover. The training devices won't break the bank but they seemed like an awful lot of trouble to use having to continually load a new blank each time.
I ended up welding up the small pulse jet that I am selling now and welding some round steel rod to it that allowed me to mount a small propane or mapp gas tank to. All you had to do was hold the ignition button down for a few seconds to fill the chamber and then ignite the mixture. I went a bit overboard with the handle design and the gas gun/pulsejet ended up looking a bit too much like an assault rifle from a distance. On two occasions I have had uninformed, concerned people call the police thinking I was discharging a rifle. I did not have any problems from the officers as they thought the gas gun was pretty cool and one wanted one made for personal use.

I liked how he repurposed this forture fish and thought maybe a lifelike butterfly with wings made of cellophane would do as well. The moisture source could be in the shape of some flower for artistic effect. ha

This was interesting how if you overload the brain cells they become damaged. And severing the nerve from the ear might not save you.
