Lures

Post by Mark » Sun Dec 03, 2006 10:55 pm

Here's some wacky lures my brother made, they are 4 ounces and glow in the dark. He likes to fish. I think they are a bit too heavy to wear on a hat. ha
They remind me of this kind of art for some reason.

Those are nice! He does a great job. I like to make my own lures too, only mine are much smaller. I can't even imagine fishing a four-ounce jig, being a creek fisherman.

Nice, makes me miss fishing a bit. I think those bright colours would work nicelt for winter fishing or fishing at dawn/dusk.

I stopped fishing when I found that catching fish wasn't that important to me, it was just as fun to just feed them and watch the fish.

Today my brother brought me an amberjack he caught yesterday on one of the pink jigs he made. It was a small one, about 34 inches or ~86 cm. I guess he catches grouper and snapper with them too. He also caught a large barracuda with one yesterday. He makes some smaller sizes that he uses for dolphin. Here's a few pics and stuff I came across for illustration of fish.

Dolfin is another term for dorado or mahi mahi, its all the same fish just different words from different countries. But I did notice that in mexico they are yellow and in hawaii they are silver...
Big blunt head, weighs 20-50 pounds avg...

There is the mammal called a dolphin and then there is a fish also called a dolphin. They just happen to have the same name.

Cool!

One time I was over in Ireland and found they had Pike in the Shannon River in Killaloe. I bought a sissy collapsible pole. and they wanted as much as that for a bate......

I took a old ball point pen and cut it in half. With some wire I articulated it and adorned it with Jackdaw feathers...( North Americans would call them Ravens)..

It looked really good...I fished with it for 3 hours and NOT...Ready to walk the 20 yards back to the Pub, I was playing with it along the base of the bridge. These two Cat like yellow eyes came up from around the edge of the bridge and WAMMMM! I had a pike. It ended up weighing 10 lbs and Sold it to the pub for some 40 Quid.. And dinners for my wife and AHHH mother in law...

The Pub owner was most happy. The place was crawling with tourist at the time and they would pay dearly for a plate...

As pointed out Mahi Mahi is another name for dolphin, someone once quipped "a fish so good, they named it twice." But it is an excellent tasting fish and I once wrote a short story about such a fish for a writing class in college, describing all the flecks and speckles and colors. One time I caught a 30 pound one in the Florida Keys off Marathon Key.

I got 94 pounds of it left in my freezer, we could only take 100 on the plane without being charged...

Biggest one we caught was 60 pounds, also got a few 150+ marlin and sailfish.
